New York: Random House, 1938. Edwin Corle (1906-1956) is noted for his strong, sympathetic writings set in California and the Southwest. Native Americans, such as in his masterwork "Fig Tree John," are often main characters. He has been compared to John Steinbeck. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition (stated First Printing) of a picaresque novel set in a tourist town. Reddish-brown cloth binding with a paper label on the spine. Clean text; 279 pages, with the top-edge stained black. The front cover has 2 very minot scuff marks, else a Fine copy. This copy has been stamped on the front cover in gilt with a (presumed) previous-owner name. The dustjacket is Very Good. Price-clipped, it shows some edgewear, with a diagonal chip at the head of the spine (which has darkened), a small chip on the rear cover, and two other closed tears. Still, the cover remains attractive, with the colors on the front cover still quite bright. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Merle Armitage/Duell, Sloan & Pearce, 1946. This is a Near Fine copy of the author's fourth novel, a picaresque tale originally published in 1938, here reprinted in an attractive edition that is SIGNED by the author and LIMITED to 1500 copies. Edwin Corle (1906-1956) was noted for writings set in California and the American Southwest. Native Americans, such as in his masterwork "Fig Tree John," are often main characters, and he has been compared to John Steinbeck. Decorative paper-covered boards with a black cloth spine: yellow with red and black in a Southwest style. Clean text; 270 pages, with two pages in the rear noting the typeface design; decorative endpapers. New York: Liveright, 1971. Originally published in 1935, this is the second book by Edwin Corle (1906-1956), and is considered his masterpiece. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition Thus, with an introduction by Walter James Miller. Green cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 310 pages. The FFEP has been clipped and there is a previous-owner chop on the half-title; else Fine. The dustjacket is bright and fresh, but has been price-clipped and has a small spot on the top of the front panel. Interestingly, Liveright chose to illustrate this work about an Apache in California with a dustjacket depicting Sitting Bull, an Hunkpapa Sioux. In an archival plastic protector. It appeared from 1894-1897, edited by Aubrey Beardsley and later by the publisher John Lane. This compilation was edited by Norman Denny. A Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Canary yellow cloth (Beardsley's choice) binding with lettering and illustration/decoration in black. Clean text; 372 pages, followed by 36 pages of black-and-white illustrations (this separation of art from text was part of its conception). Hints of a bump, else a Fine copy.
