New York: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1897. This is a Very Good copy of a Later Printing of the First American Edition, in a decorative cloth binding. Light gray with green thistle and shamrock; titles in gilt. Clean text; 366 pages. Contemporary gift inscription on the FFEP. Mild bumping, with a darkened spine; several faint stains; heavier soiling on the rear cover. Size: 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. Later Printing.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket.

New York: Harper & Brothers, 1896. "Fiona MacLeod" was the pseudonym of the Scottish writer/critic William Sharp (1855-1905), who was involved with the Celtic Revival and a member of the occult organization "The Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn" (no resemblance to a Greet political party). This is a Near Fine copy of the First American Edition. Brown cloth decorative binding - ruled in a green Celtic design on the front with gilt titling; gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 287 pages. Previous-owner signatures on FFEP and rear paste-down (along with a stamp from a reading room). Their are very light bumps and hints of wear at the margins of the spine. A nice copy.. First American Edition.. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. First Edition.

Chicago: Belford, Clarke & Co, 1885. Miss Porter (1776-1850) first published this history in 1810; she revised it in 1831into a Standard Edition. This copy has no publication date, but Quercus judges it to be from the mid-1880s - a "Caxton Edition." A Very Good Plus to Near Fine copy. Tan decorative cloth binding; fancy floral designs filled in black; spine title block is gilt. Clean text; 676 pages, indexed. Mild bumps and rub at head & foot of spine. London: Samuel Richards and Co., 1824. The Scottish poet and novelist Tobias Smollet (1721-1771), noted for his popular picaresque novels, was an influence on Charles Dickens. Here are five volumes of an original twelve-volume set of his works, in a nice early-19th century leather binding. Not common. Smooth calf, ruled and with a gilt decoration on the covers. Present are Volume II, "The Adventures of Roderick Ransome," 299 pages; Volumes III, IV, and V - "The Adventures of Peregrine Pickle," 280, 318, and 298 pages; and Volume XII, "The Expedition of Humphrey Clinker" with "The Adventures of an Atom," 338 pages. Clean texts; generally bright, supple, and unfoxed. Armorial bookplates of Herbert Henry Raphael, Bart. (1859-1924), British barrister, politician, and a Trustee of the National Portrait Gallery on the front paste-downs, along with another more modern plate. Corners are bumped; the spines are rather heavily rubbed, the major defect to be noted. An attractive little set.. First Thus. Full-Leather. Very Good (Plus)/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5" - 6" tall. Scottish poet Tobia Smollett (1721-1777) has become more well-known for his picaresque novels, several of which are firmly in the canon of English literature. Here is a nice Victorian volume of his works in a decorative binding. First Edition Thus ("New Edition"). Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine condition. Brick-red cloth, stamped in black on the spine and front cover, with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 540 pages. Includes the Advertisement from the Third British Edition and Walter Scott's Prefatory Memoir. Lightly bumped, with minimal general wear at the margins of the spine. London: Walter Scott, 1888. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition Thus, part of Scott's series of "The Canterbury Poets," under the general editorship of William Sharp. This is the popular edition; Scott also published a more deluxe version that was limited. Green cloth binding (now faded to green on the spine) with a paper spine-label. Clean text; xxxv, 229 pages, with 12 pages of adverts in the rear. This is an ASSOCIATION COPY, bearing the bookplate on the front paste-down of Francis Russell Hart (1868-1938) American amateur antiquarian and author, and with the signature of his wife, Helen B(ronson) Hart, dated 1901, on the FFEP. Bumped and rubbed at the margins and the covers mottled by the sun. A cute little volume, with interesting associations. Size: 32mo - over 4" - 5" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. First Edition.
