London: Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy, 1822. Barton (1784-1849) has been called "the Quaker Poet," although Quercus speculates that there have been many of the Friends who also wrote poetry. He was against the death penalty and slavery, and rather popular in his day. His works are now uncommon, and with only a few institutional holdings. This is a Very Good copy of the Third Edition. Marbled boards, quarter-bound in polished calf, the spine tooled with bands and panels, really an attractive little book. The text is clean, bright, and supple; 245 pages, very readable, unfoxed. Minor wear to the tips; there is a 1/4" loss to the head of the spine, and the last digit of "1822" on the foot has been rubbed off. The front board has split at the gutter and is close to detached. Please note the condition issue: Quercus must offer this book as a Binding Copy, in need of repair or restoration.. Third Edition.. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall.
