T.B. Noonan, 1875. Anonymous popular biography issued on the centennial of O'Connell's birth. There is no Title Page; a portrait of O'Connell is opposite the Preface by "The Compiler. Boston, October, 1875." WorldCat indicates that the author may be Chrysostom P. Donahoe. Quercus notes no evidence of removal; perhaps there never was one. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Green cloth decorative binding, with a bust of the Great Liberator included in the design of the front cover. The foot of the spine carries the design of the Noonan publishing house. Clean text; 294 pages. After the biography are appended "Padre Ventura's Funeral Oration," in Rome; "Father Burke's Oration," at Glasnevin Cemetary (Dublin); and the "Centennial Oration" by the American abolitionist Wendell Phillips. This is an ex-libris copy; however, the only indication is a charming label giving the rules of the Town - no other treatments noted. Mildly rubbed at the margins but still attractive. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First Edition.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good/No Jacket. First Edition.
