London, Edinburgh, Dublin, & Paris: Richard Bentley; Bell and Bradfute; Cumming; & Galignani, 1833. John (1798-1842) and Michael (1796-1874) Banim collaborated on many popular novels (beginning in the 1820s as "the O'Hara Family") which depict the Irish peasantry. Published as part of Bentley's "Standard Novels," with a new Preface, this is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition Thus, in a PERIOD FINE BINDING. Held by major intitutions in the UK, but scarce in the trade, particularly in such nice condition. Marbled boards and edges, with leather tips and a tooled leather spine (raised bands and other designs, filled with gilt). This is a superior text; 490 pages, very bright, with any foxing confined to the endpapers and a typical offset to the frontis illustrations. Just mildly bumped, and marbled edges a bit dull, else Fine. There are two bookplates in the front: one a contemporary armorial (T.M.B. Baskerville), and a later possibly early XXth Century (Anna Catherine Saylor). Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First Thus. Half-Leather. Near Fine/No Jacket. First Edition.
