London: Sampson Low, Marston & Co. Ltd., 1891. (Pseudonym of John Joseph Dunne, b. 1837, wounded veteran of the Zulu War and later a prison warder.) A famous and classic treatise that went to some ten editions, although early copies are uncommon. This is a Very Good copy of the Fourth Edition. Green and orange cloth binding with gilt lettering. Clean text; 174 pages, indexed, with an additional 32 pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. Has a fold-out map of Ireland. The paste-downs are also adverts; a worthy book for these alone. This copy shows some slight edgewear and moderate soiling. This is a possible Association Copy. There is a contemporary signature of Frank Isherwood, dated 1892, on half-title. Quercus speculates that this may be the father of poet Christopher Isherwood; he was, after all, a country squire who probably did a lot of fishing! In an archival plastic protector. Size: 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. Fourth Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
