Philadelphia: William B. Evans, 1871. A book of jokes made at the expense of the Irish; proving one man's wit is another's misfortune, and a good example of the prejudice facing the Irish immigrants in their new home. No author is listed, but the Preface is signed "C.C.B.," identified by bibliographers as Charles Carroll Bombaugh (1828-1906). This is a Very Good Plus copy of the First Edition. Brown cloth binding, ruled, with gilt lettering on the spine; the front cover has a gilt still life featuring a Dunce's cap. There is some smudging on the copyright page and the table of contents page, otherwise a very clean text; 212 pages. The pages are printed with red ruling. Very little wear, a bit rubbed at the margins. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. First Edition.
