Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1885. Helen Hust Jackson (1830-1885) was a relentless and effective activist for America's indigenous native people. She gave a copy her polemical "Century of Dishonor" to every member of Congress, and lobbied as well. But "Ramona" is probably her most enduring work going throughnumerous editions and remaing a popular theatrical entertainment. This is a Very Good Plus copy of the Second Issue, identical to the First Edition, but issued one year later. Gray cloth binding with gilt floral decoration on front cover. Decorative endpapers. Gilt titles on the spine; on the cover, the lettering is maroon in color. Clean text; 490 pages with four pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. Slight darkening to the spine, hints of bumping to the corners, and a very slight lean. Period owner's signature on the second endpaper; light foxing to edges. Withal, an attractive copy of this American classic. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. First Edition.. Decorative Cloth. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. First Edition.
