Boston: Roberts Brothers, 1872. Alcott (1832-1888) was impoverished, but not intellectually, and received her education from the leading transcendental lights of the day. She was an Abolitionist and a Feminist, and a rather wonderful writer. This is a Very Good copy of the second volume in her series of short-stories for children that eventually reached six. Copper-colored cloth binding, ruled; Gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 226 pages, with six pages of adverts in the rear. Two frontis illustrations. Laid-in is a contemporary (1888) religious card. This copy is bumped, and has a lean; there is a 1" spot on the front cover and at the foot of the spine, which has a crease. Not a volume for the advanced collector; still, a basically sound copy of an uncommon title. Size: 16mo - over 5¾" - 6¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. First Edition.
