New York: Doubleday, Page & Co, 1904. Brudno's autobiographical novel deals with the Blood Libel against Jews; it is a precursor to Malamud's "The Fixer," which was loosely based upon an incident in 1913. Brudno, though obscure today, was an important and well-reviewed novelist of the Lithuanian immigration to the United States, often compared with Abraham Cahan. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition. Red cloth binding, ruled and lettered in white. (Quercus notes that Doubleday used the same binding they used for the pro-Ku Klux Klan novels of Thomas Dixon. Clean text; 392 pages. Milly bumped; the spine has faded but the lettering is still readable. An uncommon title. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. First Edition.
