Philadelphia: Thomas Wardle, 1840. Here is a very attractive set (2 volumes) of the Irish poet and musician Thomas Moore's biography of his friend Byron. He had published Byron's "Letters and Journals" in 1830; this, however, seems to be a different book - perhaps a condensed version issued under a different title. It is, at any rate, a rather rare edition (no copies listed LOC or WorldCat); Quercus, therefore assigns it to be a First Edition Thus, perhaps the First American Edition issued in this format. Very good copies; bound in ribbed and stamped publisher's cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 699 pages and 702 pages. The pages are bright and clear, with rather minimal spotting throughout. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Thus.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. First Edition.
