Edinburgh & London: William Blackwood and Sons, 1921. Published anonymously, these stories from the West of Ireland have long been considered an apologia by the Royal Irish Constabulary in the propaganda war that accompanied the Irish Revolution. An important source, and rather scarce, that originally appeared as a series in "Blackwood's Magazine." The author has now been identified as Major Aubrey Waithman Long, Governor of Belfast Prison at the time. This is a Very Good copy of the Second Impression of the First Edition (there were at least six printings). Light green cloth binding with the title and three shamrocks on the front cover; lettering is gilt on the spine. Clean text; 314 pages. Light wear and rubbing to the edges and mildly bumped. The FFEP has been removed, and there is a previous-owner signature on the half-title page. A sound copy of an important historical source. Size: 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. Later Printing.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.
