New York, Cincinnati, Chicago: American Book Company, 1870. Oxonian classicist Theodore Buckley (1825-1856) first published an edition of Alexander Pope's translation, merely supplying the Notes. He then did his own "literal" translation, which now has a confused publication history. There is no publication date, but the LOC holds editions from 1861 and 1863, while Copac notes one from 1870. Quercus believes this particular book to be circa 1870's. It may be a reprint edition: although named "Harper's Classical Library" on the spine, the publisher on the title page is the American Book Company. It is a Very Good (Plus) copy. Dark blue cloth binding, decoratively blindstamped on the cover, with gilt lettering on the spine. Only a bit of rub to the corners. Clean text; 432 pages. A nice, solid copy. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Thus.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. First Edition.
