Dublin & London: Hodges, Smith, and Co. & Simpkin, Marshall & Co., 1863. Edward Hoare (1802-1877) was the Anglican dean of Waterford; this work of philology appears to be his only publication. Uncommon to rare. This is a Very Good (Minus) copy of the "Third Edition, carefully revised." The author is clear in the Preface to the Third Edition that it is not a reprint, due to the additions he has made. Red cloth binding, heavilly stamped for decoration; gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 223 pages, includes an index to words. Previous-owner stamp on front paste-down and title page; Dublin bookshop stamp on front paste-down. There are some stains on the covers; the spine is now faded to brown (gilt lettering is still visisble). Both hinges have cracked, but are holding; an excellent candidate for some minor repair. Size: 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. First Thus.. Hard Cover. Very Good Minus/No Jacket. First Edition.
