Sandbornton, N.H.: Charles Lane, 1838. Captain Frederick Marryat (1792-1848) of the Royal Navy is noted as an early practicioner of sea-stories. Although he has been reprinted, his period works are uncommon today.This is a lovely set of his sixth novel, in a full-leather binding. Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine condition. Smooth calf with gilt lettering on the spine. Originally published in London in 1835 (although LoC claims an edition by Carey & Hart dated 1834), these were Issued as part of "Lane's Uniform Edition." Clean, bright text; 227 pages and 209 pages. Faint penciled notes on the front endpapers, and a contemporary inked inscription on the rear paste-down. Size: 24mo - over 5" - 5" tall. Later Printing.. Full-Leather. Near Fine/No Jacket.
