New York: J. Emory and B. Waugh for the Methodist Episcopal Church, 1831. Volumes One and Two only of the seven-volume "First American Complete and Standard Edition, from the Latest London Edition, with the Last Corrections of the Author: Comprehending Also Numerous Translations, Notes, and an Original Preface, &c. by John Emory." These are Very Good (Plus) copies of Wesley's sermons, in a full-leather binding. Gilt lettering on the spine on red and black labels. Foxed, as many early 19th-century imprints tend to be; but quite sound volumes, and readable today. Both volumes have a private library label on the front paste-down, which partially covers a handwritten designation. There is a bookmark at page 215, consisting of a piece torn from a book, possibly this one. In a quirky addition, Volume Two has two clippings pasted in at the end on "Cure for a Stifled Horse" and "Superior Grafting Wax." Leather binding is scuffed, but these are sound copies of this uncommon set. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Thus.. Full-Leather. Very Good Plus/No Jacket. First Edition.
