Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott, 1877. This book, although strongly biased against the Mollies, remains a basic source for the labor violence in the coal fields in 1876. The Mollies, a secret Irish organization, were pursued and infiltrated by the Pinkertons, resulting in the hanging of ten miners, some of whom may have been innocent, as terrorists. A Very Good copy of the First Edition, rather scarce. Green cloth binding, ruled, with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; 380 pages, with Appendix. Light wear, mild bumping; surprisingly, the spine remains bright while the covers have a bit of fade. A previous-owner signature has been torn off the top of the Title Page, resulting in a 1" loss (only affecting part of the lettering -"The"). Otherwise a very respectable copy of this important work. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. First Edition.
