Chicago: J.S. Hyland & Co., 1916. This beautiful book of 19th-century photographs was first issued in 1898, what could be termed an Edwardian "coffee table book" that weighs almost seven pounds; size 11"x13-1/4". This is a later printing, which has incorporated new material - photos and commentary of the fighting and destruction of the Irish revolution, including the Black and Tans, the burning of Cork City and such. The added commentary is quite solidly pro-Ireland! While the earlier editions are not rare, this one is quite uncommon. A Near Fine copy in a green decorative cloth binding; heavilly stamped with Celtic designs and gilt representations of the arms of Ireland's traditional four provinces. Beveled edges; the design carries over to the spine. Clean text; 405 pages. Extremely minor wear; front hinge is sarting to crack but holds nicely.. First Thus. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. First Edition.
