London: C. Davis, 1732. Voltaire (1694-1778) wrote here the first recognized epic poem in French, intended to imitate Virgil. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition in English. Full leather binding; red label with gilt lettering and ruling on the spine. Clean text; 308 pages, with extensive Notes beginning at page 233. Previous-owner signature on the Title Page; two other faint signatures on Page One of the text. Generally bright and unfoxed. Rubbed margins, bumped, and with some chipping to the leather; there is some minor loss at the top of the Title Page. The covers are rather stiff to turn. Although far from a Binding Copy, Quercus is of the opinion that rebacking would be in order here to maximize enjoyment.. First Edition. Full-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6¾" - 7¾" tall. First Edition.
