Girard, Kansas: Appeal to Reason, 1915. Allan Benson (1871-1940) was a prominent Socialist writer who ran for the Presidency in 1916; he was manifestly unsuccessful in this effort. He was very anti-militarist and opposed America entering World War I. This is a Very Good copy of the First Edition, rather uncommon today. Dark blue cloth binding with gilt lettering on the front cover and spine. Clean text; 180 pages; rear free endpaper is torn out. This copy is historically interesting due to additions made by a previous owner. His personal label is on the front paste-down, along with a contemporary ad for the Socialist Review. he has signed the FFEP (August 1915) and pasted in another Socialist Review advert on the rear paste-down. A third ad, from the Socialist publisher Charles H. Kerr & Company, has been pasted onto the Title Page. Mild bumping, some rubbing to the spine lettering; the front gutter has cracked. lacking a dustjacket.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. First Edition.
