New York: Street & Smith, Publishers, 1891. The third novel by Scottish author James Matthew Barrie (1860-1937), whose lasting fame resides with "Peter Pan." Originally published by Cassell in London; this is a Near Fine copy of an early American reprint. There is a penciled signature on the FFEP that is dated 1899. Quercus suspects that despite the publication date of 1891, this edition might date later. Barrie had adapted the novel for the stage in 1897. Attractive decorative green cloth binding, with lettering and designs stamped in black and gilt. Clean text; 311 pages, with two pages of publisher's adverts in the rear. Lightly bumped, and with hints of rub at the spine margins; else a Fine copy, and easily enjoyed today.. First Thus. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. First Edition.
