Macon: J.W. Burke Company, 1951. Originally published in 1919, Aneus Africanus is "perhaps the most popular pro-slavery text in United States' history." (Joe Lockard). Edwards (1855-1938) was well-known as a journalist, novelist, and editor. Written in dialect, the story of a faithful slave uninterested in freedom had a strong appeal to the America of Jim Crow and the Ku Klux This is a Near Fine copy of the reprint edition, containing two separate Aeneus stories. Dark brown pebbled cloth binding with green titling on the front cover, along with another name stamped in gilt (presumed previous-owner). Clean text; the second tale ads 44 pages and one page of ads to the original 47 pages and ad. This edition has a frontis drawing of Eneas and the map of his travels that appeared in later editions. Mildly bumped; else a Fine copy. Reprint Edition. Hard Cover. Near Fine/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5" - 6" tall.
