London: A.K. Newman and Co., 1824. Charles Robert Maturin (1782-1824) was an Irish Protestant clergyman, novelist, and playwright. He was a friend of Byron and Scott, and an active participant in the early 19th-century literary fascination with the Gothic. He was both popular and influential in his day. His best-known work today is "Melmoth the Wanderer," a Faust-tale from 1820. This is a Very Good (Minus) copy of his second novel. First pub;lished in 1808, this is the Second Edition, Volume One only of the original four. Rare. Clean text; vii, 256 pages; generally very bright, with limited spotting. The covers are heavily scuffed and the original spine has disappeared, to be replaced by black tape. Please note the condition issue. While basically a sound copy, Quercus must offer this as a Binding Copy, in need of restoration or repair. Quercus considers this rare item an excellent candidate for a quality rebind.. Second Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good (Minus)/No Jacket. 16mo - over 5" - 6" tall.
