New York: Hurst & Company, Publishers, 1890. Heinrich Heine (1797-1856) was a noted German lyric poet, with many of his works set to music. Although he was Jewish, he was educated by the Jesuits; his work had a revival of popularity in the mid-20th Century. This is a popular late Victorian edition, in a lovely decorative binding. Tan cloth, stamped in brown, black, and gilt. Clean text; xxiv, 224 pages. All edges are gilt. Interestingly, the translation is by the Jewish poet and Zionist Emma Lazarus (1849-1887). Includes a Biographical Sketch and frontis portrait. There is no publication date, but per WorldCat, Quercus accepts 1890 as most probablr. Very Good (Plus) to Near Fine.
