New York: Harper & Brothers, 1932. Gluckel (1646-1724) began her diary when she was twice-widowed, bankrupted by a husband, and the mother of fourteen children. It provides a snapshot of life at the time. Written in Yiddish, it was published in German in 1910 and in Hebrew in 1929. Here is the first translation, by Marvin Lowenthal, into English. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition, an uncommon work that was reprinted in 1977. Tan (or orange) cloth binding, blindstamped with title and decorations on the front cover; ruled on the spine, with titling in gilt. Clean text; xxxvii, 295 pages; decorative endpapers. Small stamp from a previous-owner on the front paste-down. This copy has been SIGNED and INSCRIBED by the Translator on the reverse of the FFEP. No dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector.. Signed by Translator. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. First Edition.
