1 Loederer, Richard A. Voodoo Fire in Haiti
New York Literary Guild 1935 Book Club (BCE/BOMC). Hardcover Near Fine Very Good Plus Richard Loederer
New York: Literary Guild, 1935. Richard Loederer (1894-1981) was born in Austria; a popular illustrator, he also worked for the WPA. Some people find this travel book charming, with spectacular woodcuts by the author; however, negative comments run the gamut from "sensationalistic" to "lurid" to "racist." This is a Near Fine copy of the Book Club Edition, which is identical to the First Trade by Doubleday Doran with the exception of the dustjacket. Often mis-described as the First Edition. Orange cloth binding, blindstamped, with black and gilt lettering on the spine. Mildly bumped. 274 pages, bright and clean. Laid-in is an article on Haiti from the 1950s. The dustjacket is complete, with some mild edgewear and a small chip on the front panel. In an archival plastic protector. Although popular in its time, not frequently seen in such nice condition; a superior copy. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Book Club (BCE/BOMC).. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good Plus. Illus. by Richard Loederer. Dust jacket present.
