First published in March of 1943; this is a Very Good (Plus) copy of the Second Printing, from July of the same year. Uncommon to scarce; it was reissued in 1960. Light gray cloth binding, with blue titling and decorations on the spine and front cover. Clean text; xi, 275 pages, 281 pages, 284 pages, and 280 pages; blue topstain. The Introduction is by Alfred Hitchcock. The book is square and tight; unbumped; spine slightly darkened; light soil. The textblock is exceptionally fresh for wartime paper. The dustjacket, a modernistic design by Jean Carlu, is unclipped (although the $2.95 price has been crossed through).
