This is a very nice copy of the First American Edition of Gide's dialogues on homosexuality - and its first translation into English. Black cloth with gilt lettering - a minor bump on the lower rear panel, else Fine. New York: Farrar, Straus and Company, 1950. The Symbolist literary giant Andre gide (1869-1951) won the Nobel Prize in 1947. He considered "Corydon," a defense of homosexuality, to be his most important work. Gide worked on it over a long period of time, starting in 1911 and producing two small editions not offered for general sale. The first trade publication was in 1924. This is a Fine copy of the First Edition Thus, Black cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine. Clean text; xx, 220 pages, with Notes and appendices. Very fresh and bright. There is a striking bookplate on the front paste-down. The dustjacket is Near Fine; unclipped; it has a tiny bit of edgewear and a bit of spotting to the rear cover, else Fine. In an archival plastic protector.. First American Edition.. Hard Cover. Fine/Near Fine. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. Dust jacket present. First Edition.
