New York: Random House, 1938. Andre Malraux (1901-1976) personifies the artist/intellectual/man of action. A member in the artistic and literary avant-garde, he fought with the Republican side in Spain and the Resistance during WWII. His previous novel, "Man's Fate," won the Prix Goncourt. This is a Very Good copy of the First American Edition (stated First Printing). Translation from the French by Stuart Gilbert and Alastair Macdonald. Red and gray cloth binding, with gilt lettering. Clean text; 511 pages; previous-owner signature on the front paste-down. Spine is lightly faded. The dustjacket is complete and unclipped (the price is on the rear flap). There is chipping to the margins; rear panel darkened. A very respectable copy of one of the greatest war novels of the 20th century. In an archival plastic protector. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall.
