1 Stanley, Arthur Penrhyn Lectures on the History of the Jewish Church. Part 1. Abraham to Samuel
New York Charles Scribner and Company 1870 Later Printing. Hardcover Very Good Minus No Jacket 
New York: Charles Scribner and Company, 1870. Stanley (1815-1881) was the leading liberal theologian of his day, later was Dean of Westminster. His multi-volume history began its publishing history in 1863 (UK), one year later in America. This is a Very Good (Minus) copy of a Later Printing of the First American Edition. Brown cloth binding with gilt lettering. Fold-out map of Palestine, and a chart of the mosque at Hebron. Clean text; 572 pages, indexed, with four pages of publisher's "Condensed Catalog" at the rear. There is a gift inscription dated 1869 on the second free endpaper. The front cover has split but is holding, the corners are bumped, and there is fray at the head and foot of the spine. Please note these condition issues; Quercus offers this book as a Binding Copy, in need of repair or restoration. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. Later Printing.. Hard Cover. Very Good Minus/No Jacket.

London: John Murray, 1856. Arthur Stanley (1815-1881), also the author of "The History of the Jewish Church," was a liberal and ecumenical theorlogian, ultimately the Dean of Westminster who restored the Abbey. "Sinai and Palestine," the fruit of a visit to Egypt and "the Holy Land," was quite popular. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition, in a contemporary Fine Binding. Smooth calf leather, ruled and filled with gilt. Marbled endpapers and edges. Blindstamping to the spine, very fancy, and filled with gilt; titles in green and red, gilt; five raised bands. Clean text; 535 pages, indexed; Fold-out coloured map. Just a tiny bit of foxing, confined to the endpapers. A truly beautiful book, in wonderful condition. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. First Edition.. Full-Leather. Fine/No Jacket. First Edition.
