1 Shaw, G. Bernard An Unsocial Socialist
New York Brentano's 1906 Later Printing. Hardcover Very Good No Jacket
New York: Brentano's, 1906. "This is very nearly a good book, and still more nearly a bad one" was the judgement from a critic in 1887. A bit harsh, that judgement, but Shaw outlived them all! This is a Very Good copy of a Later Printing of the First American Edition (1900). Navy blue cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine and front cover. Clean text; very bright, 373 pages, rough-cut. Previous-owner signature (1907) on FFEP. Bumped and a bit rubbed on the margins. A sound copy of a rather uncommon Shavian title, and Quercus invites the reader to judge for himself. Size: 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. Later Printing.. Hard Cover. Very Good/No Jacket.

11 Shaw, George Bernard Love Among the Artists
Chicago Herbert S. Stone and Company 1900 First Edition. Hardcover Very Good Minus No Jacket
Chicago: Herbert S. Stone and Company, 1900. The Irish playwright George Bernard Shaw (1856-1950) also wrote novels; unfortunately, they were rather successful. He wrote "Love Among the Artists in 1881 as a serial where "a youthful Shaw describes his views on the arts, romantic love and the practicalities of matrimony. Dilettantes, he thinks, can love and settle down to marriage, but artists with real genius are too consumed by their work to fit that pattern" (from the Wikipedia entry). This is a Very Good (minus) copy of the First Edition. Green cloth binding with a stamped decorative cover and lettering in a darker green. Clean text; 443 pages. Minor bumping to corners and a tear to the top of the spine; stain on the rear cover. A previous owner has pasted two photographs of GBS to the FFEP (rather famous "mug-shots" of a young, intense, almost Rasputin-like Shaw). One of the endpapers has split, but is holding nicely. Basically a sound copy, but due to these several minor defects, not for the advanced collector. Size: 8vo - over 7" - 9" tall. First Edition.. Hard Cover. Very Good Minus/No Jacket. First Edition.
