Considered by many to be one of the best children's novels of the XXth century, and a precurser to Golding's "Lord of the Flies," a grand adventure. This is a Very Good copy of the First English Trade Edition. Bright green cloth binding with gilt lettering on the spine (which has darkened). 284 pages; clean text, perhaps starting to tan at the edges. Previous-owner gift inscription on the FFEP; edges dusty. Lacking the dustwrapper.

Considered to be one of the greatest adventure stories in modern literature written in English. This is a Very Good Plus to Near Fine copy of a Later Printing (one year after the original publication). Highly decorative paper-covered boards in green and orange. Black cloth spine with gilt lettering. Clean text; 399 pages. The spine lettering is a bit faded and a there is a mild lean, else close to Fine.No dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector.

English author Richard Arthur Warren Hughes (1900-1976) s perhaps best known for his novel "The Innocent Voyage" (also published as "A High Wind in Jamaica'). This is a Very Good copy of an early anthology, somewhat uncommon. Black cloth binding with blindstamping and gilt lettering on the spine (still bright). Minor rubbing to the margins. Clean text, occasional foxing. 426 pages. There is a publisher's errata slip pasted in to the half-title. No dustwrapper.

The second novel by the fine English writer (1900-1976), an allegory likened to Conrad's "Typhoon." Rather scarce. This is a Very Good copy of the First American Edition. Gray cloth binding with dark blue lettering. Moderate soiling, confined to the upper margins. Clean text; 279 pages. The dustjacket is complete and unclipped. Very Good (Minus) with edgewear, creasing, and several large chips, none of which affect text or lettering. In an archival plastic protector.

The second volume of Hughes's projected group of novels entitled "The Human Predicament," sadly unfinished at his death. The series was intended as a "history of my own times" that would culminate in World War Two. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Bright blue paper-covered boards with black cloth spine; silver lettering. Clean and fresh text. Previous-owner gift inscription on the front paste-down, else Fine. This copy has been SIGNED by the author on a tipped-in page prior to the Title Page. The dustjacket is unclipped, but since it is black in colour it shows some edgewear and creasing. In an archival plastic protector.
