Steinbeck's memoir of the making of the film, illustrated with many photographs from the film by Rosa Harvan Kline and Alexander Hackensmid. This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition. Tan cloth boards with green lettering and ia decorative front board. Clean and unmarked ASSOCIATION COPY. From the library of Mary and Harry Ackerman (signed on FFEP). Harry (1912-1991) an Emmy-winning producer of such greats as "I Love Lucy," "Gunsmoke," and "Leave It To Beaver." was married to actress Elinor Donohue (first name "Mary"). No dustjacket. Steinbeck's wartime novel set in Norway "continues the experiment begun with Of Mice and Men, that of writing a short novel having the time and place disciplines of the stage." This is a Near Fine copy of the First Edition (First Printing) in a Second Issue dustjacket (clipped flaps). Dark blue cloth binding with silver lettering on the spine. Clean and fresh text. Previous-owner signature on FFEP (dated 1942), else Fine. The dustjacket shows moderate wear, with rubbing at the flap and spine creases, a few small chips and wrinkles at the margins. In an archival plastic protector.
