Some Featured Books:
SAORSTAT EIREANN, Official Handbook of the Irish Free State. First Edition. Dublin, The Talbot Press, 1932.
This beautifully-produced volume has over 30 chapters covering such topics as Irish history, geology, flora & fauna, archaeology, art, and language. Wonderfully and profusely illustrated. 324 pages of text with an additional 150 pages of advertising. A folding Ordnance Survey map is present in a rear pocket. The Irish Free State was established by the Anglo-Irish Treaty of 1921. This gave Ireland the status of a Dominion until the modern state began in 1937. This is a Very Good Plus copy of the scarce First Irish Edition (it was publshed simultaneously in England). The corners are very lightly frayed and there is a small puncture to the rear of the spine. The rear gutter is a bit weak. Withal, a delightful book to read or just to admire. In an archival plastic protector. Inventory # 000826. $350.
Ralph Connor. THE SKY PILOT. A TALE OF THE FOOTHILLS. First Edition Thus. New York, Grosset & Dunlap, 1899 (?).
Pseudonym of Charles W. Gordon (1860-1937). This frontier adventure, set in the Foothills of the Canadian Rockies, was Gordon's second novel. It was incredibly popular, selling over a million copies, but is relatively scarce today on the collector market. This is a popular reprint of the original editions by Revell and Westminster, with an uncertain publishing date. A Fine copy, lacking the dustjacket. In an archival plastic protector. Inventory # 000925 $40.
Giuseppe di Lampedusa. THE LEOPARD. First UK Edition. London, Collins & Harvill Press, 1960.
The only novel by Giuseppe Tomasi (1896-1957), it was published posthumously to great acclaim and made into a popular film. This is a Near Fine copy of the First English Edition. Green cloth binding with gilt lettering. The corners are lightly bumped; some minor foxing to the fore-edge; else Fine. The beautiful dustwrapper is unclipped and only shows a tiny bit of edgewear. In an archival plastic protector. Inventory # 000969 $250.
Lowell Thomas. WITH LAWRENCE IN ARABIA. First American Edition. New York & London, The Century Company, 1924.
More than any other, this popular book created the world's image of T.E. Lawrence as the heroic "Lawrence of Arabia." It made Lowell Thomas his career as well, no matter that Lawrence himself loathed it for its inaccuracies. If one wants the real story, then read Revolt in the Desert or Seven Pillars of Wisdom! But this is a very nice book in itself, with a beautifully decorative illustrated cover and profusely illustrated with photographs. This is a Near Fine copy of the First American Edition. Lightly bumped, with a small bit of rubbing to the rear panel. Lacking the dustjacket. In an archival plastic protector. Inventory # 000970 $200.
