New York: E.P. Dutton, 1931. Ossendowski (1876-1945), a scientist, fought on the White Russian side in the Russian Civil War. Although he later fought against the Nazis, he was considered an enemy of the state and his works were banned in Communist Poland. He remained popular in the west, but his works are uncommon today. This is a Very Good copy of a Later Printing of the First Edition, lacking the dustjacket. Translation from the original Polish by Gregory Macdonald. Black cloth binding with gilt lettering. Clean text; 419 pages. A bit faded, particularly on the spine and the topstain. The FFEP has been removed. A solid copy, nonetheless. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Later Printing.. Hard Cover.
